Ride of the Month: Basham Beach and Wetlands Loop

This month’s Ride of the Month takes you on a beautiful coastal and wetland loop that shows off some of the best scenery around Victor Harbor and Port Elliot. The Basham Beach and Wetlands Loop is a relaxed ride with great views, peaceful stretches through nature, and a few perfect spots to stop for coffee or lunch.

Starting in Victor Harbor, the route follows the coast toward Hayborough before turning inland through the wetlands. It is a quiet and scenic section where you can slow down and enjoy the birdlife and views. From there, the ride heads back toward the coast and continues through Port Elliot, finishing with a gentle stretch along the Encounter Bikeway to Basham Beach. After taking in the ocean views, simply follow the coast back to Victor Harbor to complete the loop.

Our recommended coffee stop this month is Qahwa Coffee Roasters, right by the Victor Harbor skate park. It is the perfect spot for a pre-ride caffeine hit or a relaxed coffee when you return. For food, we suggest Hotel Elliot in Port Elliot, a great place to sit down for lunch and enjoy a classic coastal pub meal before heading back.

This route combines coastal riding, open wetlands, and plenty of local charm. It is an easy ride for e-bikes or anyone looking for a laid-back day on two wheels. If you head out on this one, remember to tag your photos with #BVHRideOfTheMonth so we can see your ride and share your favourite stops.
