Ride of the Month: Basham Beach Coastal Loop

Ride of the Month: Basham Beach Coastal Loop

We’re kicking off our very first Ride of the Month and what better way to start than with one of our favourite local routes. The Encounter Bikeway from Victor Harbor to Port Elliot shows off the best of our coastline and is a perfect mix of easy cruising and spectacular views.

The ride begins at the Causeway in Victor Harbor and follows the Encounter Bikeway towards Port Elliot. Along the way you will pass Commodore Point and Crockery Bay before winding your way to Basham’s Beach. This is a ride you will want to take slowly with plenty of time to soak up the views and breathe in that sea air.

Our recommended stops make this loop even more special. Take a break at the lookout at Basham’s Beach, enjoy the sweeping views from Knights Beach, and pause for the fresh ocean breeze at Hayborough Beach lookout. These little moments remind us that the ride is just as much about the journey as the destination.

No ride is complete without a good food stop. We love the Flying Fish Café in Port Elliot for a well-earned bite. When you roll back into Victor Harbor, nothing beats a coffee at the Causeway Café. Local spots, friendly faces and good food always make this ride a community favourite.

You can check out the full route and plan your ride here: Basham Beach Coastal Loop on Komoot.

This month’s ride is all about celebrating the simple joy of getting out on the bike and enjoying what is right on our doorstep. If you head out on this one, don’t forget to tag us and share your photos with #BVHRideOfTheMonth so we can see your adventure.
