Ride of the Month: Whale Watching Coastal Ride

Ride of the Month: Whale Watching Coastal Ride

This month's Ride of the Month is all about making the most of whale season along our stunning coastline. The Whale Watching Coastal Ride takes in some of the best ocean views on the Fleurieu Peninsula, with several great vantage points to stop and look for Southern Right Whales along the way.

Starting at the Causeway in Victor Harbor, the route follows the Encounter Bikeway toward Port Elliot. Your first whale watching stop is at the top of Knights Beach, where elevated views provide a great opportunity to scan the coastline. From there, continue on to Freemans Knob, another fantastic lookout that offers sweeping views of Encounter Bay.

The ride then continues toward Middleton, where there are two more excellent whale spotting locations. Take a break at Basham Beach before heading to Middle Point, both popular spots for viewing whales during the season.

From Middleton, follow Surfers Parade along the coast before turning around and making your way back toward Victor Harbor. The final stop is one of the most iconic lookouts in the region, The Bluff, where you can take in panoramic views of the coastline and hopefully spot a few whales before finishing your ride.

The full route is 41.2 kilometres, making it the perfect day trip with plenty of opportunities to stop, enjoy the scenery, and spend time looking out over the water.

For lunch, we recommend stopping at the Middleton Tavern, a great place to refuel before continuing your ride. Whether you're riding with friends, family, or heading out solo, this route combines cycling, coastal scenery, and one of South Australia's best wildlife experiences.

If you head out on this month's ride, don't forget to tag your photos with #BVHRideOfTheMonth so we can see your adventure and any whale sightings along the way.
